The formation of two proud clubs, Coburg Bowls Club (formed in 1916) and the Moreland Bowling Club (formed in 1906) were amalgamated as the Coburg Moreland Bowls Club Inc. 2007/2008. The Club is fully licensed and offers excellent bar and dining room facilities that are available for hire for private functions. Numerous social functions are regularly held for the enjoyment of members and friends. Coburg Moreland Bowling Club hosts space for Hume Blues Club.
Coburg was admitted as a senior club in the Victorian Football Association in 1925 – a move which was pivotal in allowing Footscray, North Melbourne and Hawthorn to leave the Association and join the VFL that same year. Coburg was immediately successful in the VFA, playing finals in its first season and winning three consecutive premierships from 1926 until 1928; however, these were the club's last top-division premiership for more than fifty years. Coburg was runners-up to the Northcote Football Club in three successive seasons from 1932 to 1934, and was also runners-up in 1941. The club was dominant in the junior/seconds competition from its inception in 1928 up to World War II, winning nine seconds premierships in thirteen seasons, including four in a row from 1937 until 1940.
The Blues Train has been rockin’ the rails since 1994. We started small, inspired by stories of the old blues masters jamming on Mississippi freight trains. The Blues music and train travel combo was so much fun we kept going, putting on more shows, attracting great blues musos and entertaining more and more people from all around the world. These days over 10,000 people enjoy The Blues Train every year..
